In class we discussed how to estimate the maximum number of hairs on a human body.  Here are two more problems on estimating.  In both of these problems, the emphasis in grading will be based more on you showing logical reasoning and a sensible approach than on the “right answer”.  In fact, though I’ve done my estimate, I do not know the exact answer.

1.       How much do think $1,000,000 in one dollar bills would weigh?  (Answer in pounds, please.) Be sure to completely explain your answer – no credit for a guess.

2.       You are a passenger in a drive, during the summer, along a country road lined with woods.  How many leaves could you see in 10 miles?  Once again a sensible approach and an explanation of your reasoning is what is important.  However I do need to see a numerical answer.
